geeesh!

Where has the time gone! Sorry I haven't updated in almost 2 weeks - life has been crazy!

I have been working like a maniac on website stuff for the new biz and then spent 5 days with my amazing friends in Texas. Man I miss them...

It's friends like these you don't find often enough and when you do, it's hard to know that they live so far away. Phone calls and twice a year visits just don't cut it for me anymore. It seriously gets me upset to think about how much I wish we could live closer. Especially now, with little Eden turning one and growing so fast, I feel like I am missing so much!

Anyways, enough of the sob story...all to be said, check out these pictures of my amazing week in Texas:

On Saturday, Jen threw an awesome 1st birthday party for Eden. She was absolutely adorable in her black and pink tu-tu!

Sunday was Eden's baby dedication at the church. Tried to get a good family shot,
but Eden just really wanted to run around...soooo...that's what she did! :)

Jen and I always say that no one will ever believe that we are friends because we have so few pictures together. So, we asked Matt for a photo shoot. We really just wanted some normal pictures, but I guess we just aren't that normal. We did snag a few for the records!

I can only hope for kids as well behaved and as stinkin' adorable as Eden. I mean who looks this cute with bed head and breakfast all over their face?!

Lastly, Jen and I spent some time playing outside with Eden on her slide.
Eden has more hair than a 1 year old knows what to do with.

Yes, she really is that cute in real life, actually, the pictures don't do it justice.

So, now I just need to go make a teleporting machine so that I can see them anytime I would like. Anyone got any ideas how to do that???

Not Me Monday (Episode 6)

This is a little late - but, well, as you all know, I'm busting my chops getting this secret up and running...Oh but please oh please don't get your hopes up, I've way over-hyped it now...

Anyways, here ya go!
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week. For those of your unfamiliar with the idea, Not Me! Monday was born out of a desire to admit some of our imperfections and reveal a few moments we'd rather forget. You may find it therapeutic to join in and do the same thing!

Not wanting to be late again this Sunday, I actually got up and ready in record time. So, since I was running extra early and had no reason to rush, there was absolutely no way that I walked out of the door and to the car before I realized that I didn't have my keys. I would never flip the door switch on my way out with out double checking for my keys. Ugh, not me!

It also wasn't me who made this dinner the other night:

Again, not me who made this seriously delicious meal when no one was home to enjoy it with me!! Now that would be a shame. Me? Cook a great meal with no one there to prove it to? Not me!

When Bryan and I were home last night anxiously trying to get the reception to come in on our TV so that we could watch the Bears game, we certainly did not end up with this "contraption." We would never destroy our living room looking for things to place on, near, over, under the antennas just to get a better picture.

Not us!

Oh, and what's that table you ask? Well just so you know, Bryan and I did not go out last week and fall in love with this old, green, distressed coffee table from "Flea Market to Fabulous". We would never buy a coffee table that was way larger than our allocated space just because we loved it and they offered us a bargain.

Not us!

Oh, and to top it all off, I am not sitting here, (after eating a big pasta dinner followed by a rather large bowl of ice cream) downing a bag of Dorrito's like it's my job. That's just disgusting. Seriously.

What did you not do last week?

Blast Off!

or not...

Do you ever have high ambitions to get something accomplished that you know good and well is impossible? Well, I attempted to achieve the impossible and was reminded, yet again, that I am not super-human.

Therefore, my secret launch, meant to be revealed 30 minutes ago, is still on hold.

Here is my formal apology to all the thousands , hundreds , hopefully at least one of you who was up waiting anxiously for midnight to hit: I am sorry.

The good news is that it is getting really, really, reeeeaaaalllly close to being ready.

Speaking of super-human though, I am not giving up on my invisibility cloak, my healing abilities, and my impenetrable force field. What super powers do you secretly think you , ahem, wish you had?

Fall Projects!

Inspired a whole year ago by Shannon, I have been anxiously awaiting this fall to make some of my own "festive" decor. Now, Halloween is far from my favorite holiday of the year, actually I'd be perfectly okay if Halloween just ceased to exist. I like Halloween just about as much as I like onions, and gosh do I hate onions (just ask my husband, or Jen, or my parents who raised me - they will all give you the same answer)!

So, instead of going the spooky route, I decided to start off my fall decorating with a leaf project. That's right, homemade leaves. Sounds pretty exciting, right?

Well you just take a look...

See, these are fun, festive, crafty-looking leaves!

How do you do it Kendahl??

Well, let me just show you...

1. Go to your local craft store and purchase (3) 1/2 yards of festive colored burlap, a canvas needle (18pt) and some thick colored thread.
(You know, the kind that we used to make friendship bracelets out of...)

2. Talk your 1/2 yards of fabric and cut them in half.
(You will use one half for the large leaves and put the other half aside for the smaller leaves)

3. Then fold each half in half (as pictured)

4. and then fold in half again! (is that too many halfs to follow?)

5. Then you will take your folded burlap and cut it into 6 sections.

6. You will cut out your big leaf out of each section. I did not use a pattern and I'm pretty confident you won't need one. Just cut 2 oval-like cuts and you will have something that looks like a leaf. It's hard to mess up. I promise.

You will end up with something that looks like this. They will all look slightly different so don't worry about making them perfect!

7. You will then repeat these steps for all 3 colors of fabric.

8. Now to the smaller leaves. You will use the other half of the fabric that you put aside. This time, you are going to fold the burlap in half, and then into thirds (see below).
This will create a tube-like roll.

9. And again, you will then cut your "tube" into 6 sections.

10. Out of those 6 smaller sections you will again cut your leaf shape. This is where it can can hard to cut if you don't have a good sharp pair of scissors.

Here is a picture of the difference between the small and the larger leaves for comparison.

Disclaimer: Be prepared for a mess. Please. Don't get mad at me.
You will have tiny burlap fibers all over the place.
I suggest doing all of this on the carpet because it allows for an easy vacuum clean up.

These scraps however, you should not attempt to vacuum.

11. Next, you will assemble your colors. If you are feeling risky, go ahead and just pick and choose as you go, but I am too anal for that. I needed to know what color went with what before I started as to not (heaven forbid) have 2 of the same color combinations next to each other.
(Yep, I am that crazy :)

But don't worry, Craziness is optional!

12. When you start to sew them (yes by hand!), you will just do a simple single stitch straight down the middle of the leaf. Your first stitch needs to start about a centimeter in and start from beneath the leaf and come up. Your last stitch will need to end from above the leaf going down.

You can see below that when you start stitching the next leaf,
it's okay to leave slack between the two.

13. Then you will pull them together before going on to the next one. The 2 leaves will create a peak at the seem when pulled together. You will want to make sure to do this so that your leaves have some dimension to them. It also helps to keep them all facing the same way.

14. Then you just sew, sew, sew until you think that your fingers are going to fall off.

And before you know it you will have your whole room filled with the feeling of fall!
(no, half eaten tennis ball does not come as part of the project...)

And Ta-da! You are done!

This strand of leaf garland ended up being about 8 yards long!

And for you Dave Ramsey fans out there on a budget, don't worry, this whole project cost me a whopping $6.60!

And Lastly, just because I feel bad for bashing Halloween, I will end with a few picture of our newly decorated banister with a bit of a "spooky" feel. Just for you halloween lovers.

Now, don't be fooled mother nature, just because I love fall decor does not mean I am ready for the blistering cold weather. You just hold your horses and let me enjoy my sweatshirt and flip-flop weather as long as possible =)

Not Me Monday (Episode 5)

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week. For those of your unfamiliar with the idea, Not Me! Monday was born out of a desire to admit some of our imperfections and reveal a few moments we'd rather forget. Special Labor Day Edition!

All things I have not done today...

(I definitely didn't almost forget that today was Monday!)

Well starting my day off, I surely didn't wake up this morning at 7:00 wide eyed and bushy tailed. I mean most days I struggle to get out of bed by 8 so there is no way on my day off that I would wake up early ready to go! That would be crazy!

And since I woke up so early, I would have never forced myself back to sleep, just because I could! It wasn't me who didn't actually get out of bed until 9:30. Not me!

Upon getting out of bed, I did not bee-line to the couch where I sat and played Scramble on my phone for another 30 minutes while my husband cleaned the apartment. If I were to have slept in that late, I would have definitely been up doing something helpful and productive as to not waste the entire morning while Bryan slaved away! Not sitting on the couch playing games...not me!

I did, however, get up and vacuum the entire apartment! (Yes all 750 sq ft of it!) After doing so, I most definitely did not decide it would be a good idea to vacuum Stanley as well. Vacuum a dog because I was too lazy to get out the brush? Not me!!

And all this before noon! As for the rest of my day?
Well I sure don't plan on having an extremely glorious lazy day.

I really do hope you all will do the same! :)

Happy No-Labor Day!

Putt-Putt

Disclaimer: Did you know that "Putt-Putt" is not a nation-wide generic name for mini golf? I had no idea! My friend Jen made this very aware to me one time in college when I asked her if she wanted to go putt-putt and she responded with a loving

"what the heck did you just say??
Putt....long pause....putt???? Are you just making noises??"

Here in Springfield, mini golf is almost never referred to as mini golf. To be completely honest, I didn't even know people really used the term mini golf until I went to college. I mean I'm sure I would have figured it out, but for the most part "Putt Putt" is synonymous to mini golf around here. So, forgive me, but I will continue to call it putt-putt until the day I die. It's like asking for a tissue, no one does that, they ask for a Kleenex.

Same difference.
(And by the way, I never understood that statement either,
but that's a tangent for another day.)

So, anyhow...

Last night we went Putt-Putting. Bryan invited all of the youth leaders from our church out to play a round and just have a good time.

(By the way, we have many available ways to help out with the youth at our church and if you have any desire be it cooking food, planning games, or just hanging out with kids, you should definitely check out this post here and contact Bryan!)

Again, sorry I'm chasing every rabbit...

Anyways, here are some pictures from the night!

Bryan's game face!

We won't discuss the fact that he did not bring his game last night.

After talking up his "back 9" he ended up almost doubling par
(but we're not going to talk about it ;)

Carl putting on a difficult "mystery pipe" hole.
(although we cheated and figured out which one led where before we went)

Bryan attempting to take the road less traveled.
He explained that it was the shortest distance to the hole.
(and he wonders why he got 3rd place...)

And the best part of the evening?!

I didn't get last place!!!

sorry Megan :)

Steve and Carl were in a heated battle for 1st place all night.

Oh! And I almost forgot!

See this hole here?

See it?

I got a hole-in-one!

That's right suckers!

Err, I mean, we all did a very good job and had a lovely night.
