{ helmet. }

Helmet.

The dreaded word.  I thought we escaped it.  I thought we would get to do the whole PT thing.  We were wrong.

E rocked his PT appointment.

Pretty much had no problem doing any of the crazy exercises that the doc made him do.

Look to the right?  Well of course.

Look to the left...yep can do that one, too.  No problem.

So, while on the bright side E is very strong and having no motor skill delays, on the not-so-bright-side, that means his head will not correct itself with time.  If so, it would have already done it.  Or at least started.

So.  Bah.  Enter helmet.

We go tomorrow morning to see what this is all about.

I really was fine with the idea until Bryan and I put E to bed tonight.  As I leaned in, as I do each night to give him a kiss on the head, I realized that pretty soon I will be kissing a big ole hunk of plastic.  heart.  breaking.

People, he really does have the most kissable head.

I'm off to spend the rest of my night Pinteresting helmet decorating tips.  Although I may possibly be the first to try and Pinterest this.  We shall see.

Stay tuned...Adventures in helmet wearing starts in the wee hours.

  1. helmet shmelmet! He'll be just fine!
    My niece Riley had to wear a hip brace for a few months and both Riley and Morgan got used to it! NBD! :) Plus he will be the cutest helmeted guy on the planet.

    PS- I NEED the chevron sleeper E is wearing in the photo on the right… but I can't find it? Any ideas on where it came from?

  2. Don't worry! You'll still get to kiss his head :) Most helmets are open on the top. In fact, if it's not open on top, I'd ask why. I'm working in early intervention PT and a lot of my babies have helmets. They're not that bad. Usually the kids take a few days to a week to get used to them and then they don't even notice they're there. Every mom I know is glad they got the helmet. Although I did have a few moms who felt sorry for their babies and didn't keep the helmet on them. They kept taking it off to give them "breaks" but really they just prevented the baby from ever getting used to it and prevented the helmet from working. Now the babies are too old for helmets and still have misshapen heads. So the moral of that story is, stick it out and leave it on him. He'll be adorable and you'll be glad you did it!
    My friend decorated her baby's helmet to look like a soccer ball and it was incredibly cute!
